This year Street Child is focusing on getting girls into school, following our consultation of 2,000 adolescent girls last October. We're calling this campaign Girls Speak Out, to reflect the fact that for many girls and young women, this is the first time anyone has asked their opinion, or listened to their needs.
We asked them what was keeping them out of school, and they told us: poverty, a lack of commitment to girls' education, and more. We're currently designing and raising funds to implement new programs aimed at directly addressing these challenges, and to make sure that girls have not only a voice, but also a choice. We'll be releasing a report about it next month - watch this space. It's a very interesting read!
